Toulon Provence Regatta

25.04.2024

Over 300 sailors discover Toulon and its region

The Club Nautique de la Marine in Toulon and Twelve Med Events, in collaboration with Toulon Town Hall and the Toulon Provence Méditerranée Metropolis, are organizing the "Toulon Provence Regatta" from May 7 to 12, 2024. This regatta will bring together some twenty 12 mJI yachts, whose class represented the pinnacle of yacht development for the highest levels of international sailing competition, from the Olympic Games (1908-1920) to the America's Cup (1958-1987). These yachts will be accompanied by other metric yachts. They will be on display in the Vieille Darse of the Port of Toulon, on the Quai Cronstadt between the town hall and the Préfecture Maritime, accompanied by their 300 crew members from Tuesday May 7 to Sunday May 12. Late afternoon on Friday, May 10, 2024, the yachts will move aside to make way for the passage of the Olympic flame.

The yachts will race for six days in the Grande Rade de Toulon, and will be visible from the Vignettes nautical stadium. Follow-up regattas at sea and from land will be offered, as well as evenings with the crews. Sailboats can be visited by reservation. School groups and colleges will also be taking part in the event. On Saturday, May 11, the public will be able to take part in baptisms and nautical activities on the Mourillon beaches.

A world first in over 20 years!

The first 2024 leg of the 55th Coupe de France du Yacht Club de France, the "Toulon Provence Regatta" will pit 5 generations of 12 mJIs from all over the world against each other for one week.

With a fleet that has never been so large since the America's Cup Jubilee in Cowes in 2001, this regatta will involve intense digital communication to share with sailors and enthusiasts around the world images aboard these legendary boats in idyllic settings. On land, the celebrations will be on a par with these great crews, bringing together some fifteen sailors for each maneuver. The clubs involved in the organization and the crews will work together to limit the impact on the environment, in particular by pooling as much equipment as possible, optimizing transport and limiting waste generation and water consumption.

Expectations:

  • VISUAL (at sea and on the quayside: boat tours by prior arrangement),
  • PARTICIPATIVE (Primary schools and colleges, Nautical clubs and associations, Metropolitan population),
  • RESPECTFUL (preservation of the marine environment, sustainable development and sailing)
