Environmental approach

Make the ports of the Rade de Toulon the cleanest
in the Mediterranean

Portelo cannot be a project for the future without a strong environmental dimension. Its ambition is clear: to make the ports of the Rade de Toulon the cleanest in the Mediterranean. Sustainable development will therefore be at the heart of each of its actions. These will revolve around three key areas: the preservation of biodiversity, low-carbon construction and the development of new uses.

In addition to pursuing the European certification process "Ports Propres Actifs en Biodiversité" (Clean Ports Active in Biodiversity) for all its port infrastructures, Portelo is further committed to the protection of flora and fauna, in particular by controlling the risks associated with the construction sites that will be carried out, meticulously monitoring water quality, building pontoons and dikes to house fish nurseries, adapting site lighting and re-vegetating artificial areas.

The use of bio-sourced and recycled materials will be favored, as will the recycling of materials. The circular economy will become the norm. The production of renewable energy will be stepped up with the installation of solar panels on new buildings.

As an inexorable consequence of global warming, the risk of marine submersion has been taken into account in port renovation work. Raised quays, anti-submergence walls, runoff treatment, riprap, outlets, dikes and breakwaters are just some of the measures planned to mitigate the risk of submersion. All planned works will be responsible and virtuous.

A company with a mission

Defined by the Pacte law, of May 22, 2019, the status of company with a mission encourages companies to pursue a dual challenge: ensuring its economic sustainability by developing its business, while taking into consideration the role it gives itself in society.

Adopting this status means enshrining in the company's bylaws its raison d'être and the social and environmental objectives, also enshrined in the bylaws, that the company has set itself to pursue in the course of its business. As such, this approach is both highly binding and enforceable should the company act or adopt decisions that run counter to its mission. In view of the challenges facing the region and the Rade, it was clear to us that Portelo, the company behind Maribay Toulon Plaisance, was the right choice to adopt the status of mission-driven company.
