Discover the port of Lazaret
The Port du Lazaret is 5 km from downtown La Seyne-sur-Mer.
It comprises the following sites: Port de Balaguier, Port de la Petite-Mer, Tamaris wharf and Port du Manteau. It wasn't until the 19th century that the Bay of Lazaret began to develop. The west coast between Balaguier and Les Sablettes was marshland. The former lighthouse builder of the Ottoman Empire, Michel Pacha, redeveloped the coastline with the construction of the Route des Sablettes, and set up a shipping system from Toulon to Les Sablettes, Tamaris and Saint-Mandrier. The Balaguier site with its fort, the Tamaris site and the Manteau site along the Tamaris corniche, with its famous Moorish villas, are all important heritage sites. The corniche de Tamaris helps to highlight the exceptional natural character of this site. As far as the environment is concerned, aquaculture farms have been set up in the Lazaret bay.
